NEW TREES FOR THE WEOLEY WARD In Selly Oak, Northfield, and Weoley Castle

Peter Douglas Osborn with one of the new trees.

Trees for the Ward – This year we have put in over 150 new trees in this area to “green” the neighbourhood. It means a better quality of life. A better Neighbourhood means less criminal behaviour. It means that nature will use the assets as the area improves. For the last ten years it has been our policy to tidy up the ward and improve it. This has meant a battle for resources which were only spent centrally. When we took control that policy was changed. It has meant equal treatment for the outer wards – not political favouritism.

The Crossing at St. Brigid’s

After a four year campaign led by Councillor Delaney - who went to St. Brigid’s school - success attended the attempts by the previous Headmaster and Adrian. Their campaign was taken to the new administration’s Cabinet Member for Transportation: Len Gregory – who was also born in the Ward! This was successful, and soon we will have a crossing outside St. Brigid’s – “This is good news for parents and children alike” said Peter Douglas Osborn. “We are grateful to the Safer Routes to Schools team without whose help this crossing would never have materialised.”

New surface and improvements at Merritt’s Brook

Funding has been secured by your Local Councillors - Adrian Delaney, Peter Douglas Osborn, and Eddie Freeman. “We can improve this little centre and give it a fresh lease of life by investing in infrastructure. The improvements will include re-tarmacing the forecourts and paving area at the front of the shops, and installation of nice new bollards”

This investment will continue our policy of renewal and regeneration in order to improve your quality of life.

Another litter pick with volunteers raised over a ton of rubbish again on another Friday morning. Councillor Peter Douglas Osborn said the volunteers were “fantastic”, it was “interesting to guess what some of the items we sent to recycling were – parts of mowers, tyres/wheels, and 3 rusty shopping trolleys!”
